Official Opening

Join us as we officially open the 2019 AMSI Winter School on Computational Modelling of Heterogeneous Media. Professor Margaret Sheil AO (Vice-Chancellor and President QUT), will present the keynote address.

Diversity in STEM Panel Session

CHESSE! WINE! STEM!

We welcome all students, researchers and professionals with an interest in STEM to join us for a relaxed evening of talks, and lively discussions.

This is a FREE event. Registrations are essential

Participant Talks

Build networks and share your work with peers from around the country.

Week 1 – each AMSI Winter School 2019 attendee will take turns to present a 15 minute talk on their research or related field of study to a small group (approximately 6-8 of their peers) in panel sessions. At the end of each session, a secret vote is held where participants rank their peers (no one is allowed to vote for themselves) with a ‘Winner’ from each group.

Week 2 – the group session ‘Winners’ meet in the Talk finals where they present their talk to the wider delegation of Winter School attendees. A secret vote is held at the end of the final session where audience members vote for their favourite three talks to determine the overall winner – who is awarded a prize.

Participants are encouraged to ask questions at the conclusion of each talk and build collaborative networks throughout these sessions.

Participant abstracts are due on Monday 17 June. Please submit these to Andree McFarlane at andree.mcfarlane@qut.edu.au

Cube Visit

The Cube is one of the world’s largest digital interactive learning display spaces dedicated to providing an inspiring, explorative and participatory experience of QUT’s science and engineering research. Take some time out of your classes to explore this space and get a sneak peek into how research can be applied to examine and solve real life problems.

Friday Night Social

On Friday night, after class, sit back, and relax over an informal dinner with your new friends and recap on the first week of the program and enjoy the splendour of Brisbane!

End of School Dinner

Gather at Old Government House for a sit-down dinner with students, academics and special guests and celebrate two weeks of fun and maths.

Official Closing

Join us as the program officially draws to a close. Wave farewell (but not goodbye!) to friends and share a round of high fives for getting through a bumper two-weeks of fun before heading home. Don’t forget to add your new friends to your socials!
